About The Position

The Senior Technician supports advanced integration, deployment, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting across Insight lab and data center environments. The role independently executes complex build plans; configures servers and networks; manages firmware and software baselines; implements approved VLAN changes; validates infrastructure health; and resolves technical issues while meeting safety, security, quality, and customer requirements. The Senior Technician is also a technical escalation point and work leader for technicians and associate engineers, coordinating daily technical activities, checking work quality, improving procedures, supporting customer acceptance, and developing repeatable capabilities for high-density and AI infrastructure rack builds. The position leads and performs staging, integration, installation, relocation, maintenance, decommissioning, and inventory work for servers, storage, networking, accelerators, racks, and supporting infrastructure. It interprets engineering designs and customer requirements; coordinates work, access, tools, materials, and handoffs; maintains lifecycle records; and supports incident response, maintenance, remote-hands requests, equipment replacement, root-cause investigation, and service restoration. The Senior Technician configures and troubleshoots server, storage, platform, and network hardware and software; executes diagnostics, burn-in, health checks, resiliency tests, and acceptance procedures; manages approved IOS, firmware, software, and VLAN changes; and documents change validation and rollback. The role also leads hands-on assembly and integration of AI infrastructure racks, validates power, cooling, connectivity, telemetry, health, thermal performance, and resiliency, and supports rack-level testing and customer review. The role provides technical guidance and coaching, reviews work, coordinates with engineering and operational stakeholders, maintains procedures and knowledge materials, and identifies opportunities to improve quality, cycle time, automation, tooling, and first-pass yield. It follows company, customer, manufacturer, and site requirements for change management, security, data handling, asset records, and safety.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science, information technology, electronics, networking, engineering technology, or a related field; equivalent technical certifications and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of progressive hands-on experience supporting enterprise servers, networks, data centers, integration labs, or comparable technical environments.
  • Demonstrated experience independently configuring, upgrading, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting enterprise hardware and infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of server architecture, out-of-band management, RAID and storage, operating systems, virtualization, Ethernet, TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, access and trunk ports, and structured cabling.
  • Experience executing controlled IOS, software, firmware, and configuration changes with backup, validation, evidence, and rollback procedures.
  • Ability to read rack elevations, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, implementation plans, technical manuals, and change records.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work, mentor less-experienced teammates, manage competing priorities, and communicate technical issues clearly.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable background, customer-site, security, and access requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform staging, integration, installation, relocation, maintenance, decommissioning, and inventory activities for servers, storage, networking, accelerators, racks, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Interpret engineering designs, rack elevations, bills of materials, cabling diagrams, implementation plans, and customer requirements; identify risks or discrepancies before execution.
  • Coordinate daily technical work, sequencing, access, tools, materials, and handoffs to meet schedule and quality commitments.
  • Maintain asset, serial-number, rack-position, port, cable, power, firmware, configuration, and test-result records throughout the lifecycle.
  • Support incident response, preventive maintenance, remote-hands requests, equipment replacement, root-cause investigation, and service restoration.
  • Configure server and platform components, including BIOS/UEFI, management controllers, processors, memory, storage, RAID, adapters, accelerators, boot settings, operating systems, and hypervisors, to approved standards.
  • Diagnose hardware, boot, storage, operating-system, management-plane, compatibility, and performance issues using vendor and platform tools.
  • Execute diagnostics, burn-in, health checks, resiliency tests, and customer acceptance procedures; analyze results and drive corrective action.
  • Install and replace components while observing electrostatic-discharge, torque, airflow, compatibility, and warranty requirements.
  • Stage, configure, back up, upgrade, validate, and recover network switches and related devices using approved IOS or equivalent vendor software.
  • Apply coordinated firmware baselines across servers, management controllers, storage devices, adapters, switches, power equipment, and supported peripherals; verify compatibility, dependencies, image integrity, configurations, and post-change health.
  • Implement approved VLAN, access-port, trunk, permitted-VLAN, native-VLAN, port-channel, and management-network changes; follow change plans, peer reviews, validation, evidence, and rollback procedures.
  • Troubleshoot switching, routing adjacency, transceiver, fiber, copper, cabling, addressing, link aggregation, and management connectivity issues within assigned scope.
  • Lead hands-on assembly and integration of AI infrastructure racks, verifying rack elevations, weight distribution, equipment placement, cabling, labeling, clearances, airflow, and bill-of-material accuracy.
  • Coordinate power-readiness checks, power-distribution mapping, redundancy validation, load awareness, grounding, and documented power-on sequencing.
  • Support cooling-readiness and environmental validation for high-density equipment, including airflow controls and liquid-cooling procedures when trained and authorized.
  • Apply rack-wide configuration and firmware baselines; validate management access, fabric connectivity, storage paths, time synchronization, telemetry, hardware health, thermal performance, and resiliency.
  • Lead rack-level burn-in and acceptance testing, collect evidence, resolve defects, and prepare systems for customer review and deployment.
  • Help develop repeatable AI build standards, automation inputs, checklists, test plans, lessons learned, and capacity requirements.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for technicians and associate engineers; provide hands-on coaching, work direction, and knowledge transfer.
  • Review completed work for technical accuracy, documentation quality, safety, security, and adherence to approved procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, logistics, quality, security, facilities, vendors, and customers to resolve blockers and manage dependencies.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, checklists, and technical knowledge articles.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, cycle time, automation, tooling, material flow, observability, and first-pass yield.
  • Communicate status, risks, incidents, defects, and resource needs clearly to technical and operational stakeholders.
  • Follow company policies, customer controls, change-management practices, manufacturer requirements, and applicable site procedures.
  • Protect customer data, credentials, configuration files, software images, and confidential information using approved access and media-handling practices.
  • Maintain chain of custody and audit-ready records for assets, changes, configurations, testing, exceptions, and remediation.
  • Enforce electrostatic-discharge controls, lifting and material-handling practices, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, and lockout/tagout requirements where applicable.
  • Stop and escalate work when requirements are unclear, conditions are unsafe, authorization is missing, or a change exceeds assigned authority.
