About The Position

CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to lead documentation development, content standards, and communication quality in support of a major federal modernization program. This role creates clear, concise, accurate, and compliant technical materials that support engineering, cloud, migration, QA, security, and operational teams. The Senior Technical Writer ensures all documentation meets program, security, and contractual requirements while enabling successful system development and sustainment.

Requirements

  • Must have an Active Top Secret Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation development, or content management
  • Strong ability to translate technical content into clear documentation for varied audiences
  • Experience writing for cloud, DevSecOps, engineering, software, or data-driven environments
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, Markdown, or Adobe/Microsoft suites
  • Excellent organization, communication, editing, and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting federal modernization or national-security programs
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, CI/CD pipelines, or enterprise system architectures
  • Experience with documentation for security compliance, accreditation, or audit support
  • Ability to support large, multi-team programs with high documentation throughput

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, system descriptions, design artifacts, and configuration records
  • Develop SOPs, user guides, operational procedures, runbooks, and reference materials
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, audience-appropriate content
  • Ensure documentation follows program formatting, style, security, and compliance standards
  • Edit and improve existing content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency
  • Maintain version control and documentation integrity across multiple repositories
  • Work closely with Full Stack Engineers, Cloud Engineers, DevSecOps, Data Migration teams, QA Automation, and Product staff
  • Participate in sprint activities, technical reviews, and release readiness meetings
  • Gather information from SMEs, architects, and engineering leads to produce accurate content
  • Ensure documentation supports federal security controls, processes, and classification requirements
  • Create and maintain materials required for audits, accreditation packages, and compliance reviews
  • Document system changes, updates, and enhancements to meet contract requirements
  • Recommend improvements to documentation workflows, repositories, templates, and standards
  • Support onboarding materials, knowledge transfer, and transition documentation
  • Coordinate documentation deliverables for release cycles and deployment events
