Sr Technical Advisor Engineering - High Speed Rail
About The Position
HNTB is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor in Engineering to support High-Speed Rail projects in Los Angeles. The position provides guidance and direction in an area of expertise and functional discipline, supporting technical aspects of project development and delivery, including proposal development, scope implementation, and change management. The advisor applies advanced engineering methods, techniques, and analyses to develop solutions, make recommendations, and resolve issues, while ensuring industry and HNTB design standards are applied consistently across projects of varying disciplines, sizes, and complexity. The role independently applies engineering knowledge and experience in collaboration with internal project teams and external client counterparts. It serves as a technical advisor on complex projects, providing technical designs, plans, and specifications, and contributes to project delivery for California clients including LA Metro, the California High-Speed Rail Authority, and Metrolink. The position also supports multidisciplinary planning, design, and implementation of transportation projects that improve regional mobility and connectivity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Engineering and 11 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with high-speed rail corridor design and rail systems integration.
- Ability to serve as a trusted client advisor and recognized technical expert.
Nice To Haves

- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience with high-speed rail projects in California.
- Familiarity with California General Practices.
- Representation of the firm on industry advisory committees.
Responsibilities
- Perform independent technical reviews, make recommendations, and provide technical guidance on complex or unusual engineering projects.
- Provide direction to resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring and support to production staff.
- Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation for complex or unusual engineering projects within the discipline.
- Coordinate technical aspects with client counterparts and teaming partners at the local leadership level for work within and across disciplines.
- Develop and advise on technical consistency within and across disciplines, processes, and projects.
- Ensure consistent application of standards and practices.
- Serve as lead technical engineer for large, complex, or unusual projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
