High Speed Systems Engineer

Leidos•San Diego, CA
•$87,100 - $157,450•Onsite

About The Position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to support complex, high-priority Department of Defense portfolios. The role drives Value Driven Design and advanced Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) workflows, bridging systems architecture, parametric lifecycle modeling, and cross-functional engineering execution. The engineer leads requirements and architecture working groups, designs automated tool integrations using Cameo Systems Modeler, and oversees verification for national security hardware and software environments. The role requires full-time onsite work in a controlled SCIF environment and travel of 10–20% to customer and partner organizations. U.S. citizenship and an active TS clearance are mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline, with 4+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in MBSE methodologies and direct architecture capture using SysML-compliant tools, specifically Cameo Systems Modeler or MagicDraw.
  • Hands-on experience developing or managing complex structural allocations, such as Block Definition and Internal Block Diagrams from L0 through subsystem levels, and generating automated documents or reports using VTL, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience drafting, analyzing, and decomposing technical requirements, preferably using EARS or automated requirements management databases such as DOORS.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead small technical teams, align multidisciplinary engineering divisions, and present effectively internally and externally.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in a controlled SCIF environment and travel 10–20% to customer and partner organizations.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Active TS security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline, with 4+ years of experience.
  • Industry experience in high-speed dynamics, aerothermodynamics, hypersonics, or advanced propulsion.
  • Advanced, administrative, or power-user experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or MagicDraw, IBM DOORS, SIMIO, or equivalent enterprise MBSE and requirements databases.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition lifecycle and program processes.
  • Experience applying parametric cost modeling, Monte Carlo techniques, or advanced mathematical trade studies to defense hardware acquisition programs.
  • ASEP/CSEP (INCOSE) or OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) credentials.
  • Active Top-Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural and behavioral capture of high-speed system architectures in Cameo Systems Modeler or MagicDraw, creating and maintaining unified SysML Logical, Physical, and Allocative views.
  • Oversee creation, maturation, and tracking of constrained-syntax requirements using EARS-aligned paradigms to support requirements-to-verification traceability and test artifact mapping.
  • Develop, expand, and maintain parametric manufacturing and operations and support (O&S) lifecycle models in Excel, Python, or MATLAB to quantify design alternatives and perform sensitivity analysis.
  • Formulate, manage, and facilitate multidisciplinary requirements and architecture working groups to define engineering interfaces and establish open-architecture configuration management.
  • Direct trade studies, technical decision briefs, and executive white papers evaluating warfighter utility, manufacturing readiness, and lifecycle cost-benefit tradeoffs.
  • Build custom Velocity Template Language (VTL) scripts in Cameo to automate contract deliverables, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and program milestone design reviews.
  • Provide technical leadership within a matrixed team environment.
