Sr. Team Leader, Cash Application
About The Position
The Senior Team Leader oversees and guides the Cash Application team, ensuring efficient and accurate processes. The role provides advanced leadership for managing complex tasks and driving process improvements, while managing cash flows into WEX and its subsidiaries with a focus on compliance, financial risk mitigation, and operational excellence. The position leads payment application, close processes and reporting, cash and accounts receivable journal-entry coordination, process controls, improvement and automation initiatives, stakeholder and audit responses, and subsidiary and acquisition integrations. It also coordinates with Treasury, IT, WEX Bank, and Accounting on lockbox activity, bank files, and related initiatives. The Senior Team Leader leads and develops team members and team leaders, including setting goals, delivering metrics, conducting performance reviews, coordinating work and training schedules, managing coverage calendars, and maintaining process documentation. The role also proactively explores AI and automation to scale operations, reduce manual work, and mitigate operational risks.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of proven senior leadership experience in finance-related fields.
- 7 or more years of financial experience in Accounts Receivable, banking, Accounts Payable, or another applicable area.
- 1–3 years of experience managing high-level financial processes and teams.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation and drug screening.

Responsibilities
- Oversee accurate and timely application of customer payments to receivable accounts, providing advanced leadership and team development.
- Collaborate with Receivables, Customer Service, and other internal stakeholders to resolve customer posting issues and misapplied cash.
- Lead daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and reporting.
- Coordinate with WEX Bank and the WEX Accounting team to support General Ledger integration and daily cash/accounts receivable journal entries.
- Design, streamline, and execute procedures and controls to mitigate financial risk and improve transaction efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify and drive process improvement and automation opportunities in collaboration with relevant functions.
- Respond to requests for financial information from internal and external stakeholders, including auditors.
- Oversee onboarding and integration of subsidiaries and new acquisitions, ensuring smooth transitions and compliance with financial policies.
- Work with Treasury and IT to coordinate lockbox activity, resolve incoming and outgoing bank-file issues, and represent operations on bank or Treasury initiatives.
- Lead the team through meetings and one-on-ones, goal setting, metrics delivery, and performance reviews.
- Coordinate work distribution, training schedules, PTO and holiday coverage calendars, and process documentation.
- Mentor and develop team leaders to support consistent leadership across the department.
- Identify opportunities to integrate AI and automation into operational processes to drive scale, reduce manual work, and mitigate operational risks.
