About The Position

The Sr. Specialist, Technical Writer, will be responsible for creating, developing, planning, writing and editing operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. This role involves researching and translating technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for both non-technical and technical users. The specialist will conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data, document engineering processes and specifications, and recommend formats that meet technical and customer requirements. A key aspect of this role is producing high-quality documentation that adheres to company standards and interacting regularly with Engineering stakeholders and customers to capture publication data and schedule requirements. The position also requires managing defined budgets, meeting schedule deadlines through adaptability and flexibility, and using MS Office Suite and other applications for communication and coordination. Specific tasks include updating various digital publications for the VIPSAM fleet of aircraft and developing/modifying digital publications using FrameMaker software. The ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and obtain a Secret DoD Clearance is also necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with six (6) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Graduate Degree with four (4) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of eight (8) years of prior experience gathering, composing, and editing technical information for Flight Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Aeronautical Publications and/or Engineering experience.
  • Operator experience on VIP Government aircraft.
  • Earned Value Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, plan, write, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication.
  • Research and translate technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.
  • Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Document engineering processes and specifications.
  • Recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
  • Produce products that conform to company documentation and quality assurance standards.
  • Interact with Engineering stakeholders and customers to accurately capture Publication data and schedule requirements.
  • Work within and lead defined budgets and meet schedule deadlines by employing adaptability and flexibility through change management.
  • Use MS Office Suite and locally created applications to communicate manpower and scheduling of personnel while coordinating with Program Management Office and Technical Publication supervision.
  • Update Digital Flight Manual, Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, Wiring Diagram Manual, Time Compliance Technical Orders, Maintenance Planning, and Task Card data for the VIPSAM fleet of aircraft.
  • Develop and modify required digital publications in an unstructured environment using FrameMaker software.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
