About The Position

DaVita Integrated Kidney Care (IKC) is seeking a Sr. Coding Specialist to support Medicare risk adjustment coding and related government projects and initiatives. The specialist reviews provider notes and medical charts, assigns and enters valid codes, identifies missed or incorrect HCC codes, collaborates with providers to resolve coding issues, and processes charges and electronic claims. The role also serves as a subject matter resource for teammates with less experience.

Requirements

• Four years of medical coding experience in a health plan.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCC coding and reimbursement guidelines.
• Knowledge and understanding of Medicare Advantage contracts and/or financial analysis.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Ability to work quickly, accurately, and independently.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and solutions for government projects and initiatives related to Medicare risk adjustment coding; serve as a resource for less-experienced teammates.
• Review provider notes to abstract, assign, and enter valid ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes into the EPIC EHR platform.
• Review medical charts to identify and correct missed or erroneous HCC codes according to HCC coding requirements.
• Work with providers to obtain clarification or provide feedback to resolve coding issues and related problems.
• Enter charges into the MEDfx practice management system.
• File electronic claims within 48–72 hours of entry.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
