About The Position

Liqid is hiring a senior individual-contributor Solutions Architect to lead technical pre-sales engagements for important customer opportunities. The role is customer-facing and partners closely with account executives on discovery, solution design, proofs of concept, RFP responses, and executive technical conversations. The Solutions Architect owns technical strategy across a territory from early qualification through technical close, reports to the SVP of Worldwide Solutions Engineering, and works with a small, senior solutions architecture team. The location is primarily California, with travel across the West and Midwest. The role translates Liqid Matrix’s GPU and memory pooling capabilities into practical customer architectures and business value. It involves helping customers address GPU utilization, HBM, power, and infrastructure economics across AI training and inference, HPC, and virtualization/VDI. The successful candidate will lead customer discovery, own the PoC process through installation, configuration, testing, and decision, and communicate outcomes to both technical stakeholders and executive buyers. The role also contributes field insight to Product and Engineering, supports repeatable sales assets and playbooks, and ensures smooth technical handoffs and strategic deployment support.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in technical pre-sales, solutions architecture, or field engineering at a B2B infrastructure, systems, or AI infrastructure company.
  • Track record of personally owning technical work on competitive deals, including discovery, architecture, PoCs, and technical close.
  • Current knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure, GPU systems such as H100/H200/B100/B200 class and successors, memory hierarchy, and cluster-scale training and inference architecture.
  • Working command of data-center server platforms, fabric and networking, including CXL, PCIe Gen5/6, NVLink, InfiniBand, RoCE/Ethernet, and storage.
  • Hands-on familiarity with virtualization and VDI, including VMware and equivalents, and orchestration/scheduling such as Kubernetes and SLURM.
  • Ability to discuss infrastructure economics, including GPU utilization, cost-per-token, and TCO.
  • Consultative approach that identifies the underlying customer problem before proposing a product.
  • Ability to partner with account executives, qualify opportunities honestly, and take shared responsibility for results.
  • Ability to take ownership of a territory and proactively determine next steps.
  • Interest in and ongoing awareness of the AI infrastructure landscape.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to explain composable architecture to engineers and executive audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working alongside or through tier-one OEMs such as Dell, HPE, Cisco, Supermicro, Lenovo, or equivalents.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical relationships for accounts across the territory from initial discovery through technical close and deployment.
  • Partner with account executives on technical discovery, solution design, PoC scoping, RFP/RFI responses, and executive technical engagement.
  • Conduct technical discovery into GPU utilization targets, workload mix, fabric constraints, and the economics behind customer decisions.
  • Be accountable for technical win rate and PoC conversion in the territory, tracking where opportunities are won, lost, or stalled.
  • Deliver PoCs using Liqid hardware at customer or partner locations, or through Liqid’s remote lab environment.
  • Own the PoC process, including installation, configuration, testing, and driving decisions against customer-agreed success criteria.
  • Build and deliver Liqid Matrix demonstrations tailored to AI training, inference at scale, HPC, and virtualization/VDI workloads.
  • Contribute to and reuse reference architectures, sizing tools, TCO models, and PoC playbooks.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the demo and lab environment and provide feedback on field requirements.
  • Partner with Sales to qualify opportunities, shape technical strategy, and identify poor-fit opportunities.
  • Own territory activity by understanding accounts, the competitive landscape, and pipeline needs.
  • Communicate effectively with customer stakeholders from principal engineers and chief architects to CIOs, CFOs, and buying committees.
  • Provide structured, evidence-backed customer feedback to Product and Engineering.
  • Work with Support, Marketing, and OEM partners to educate, optimize, and develop capabilities.
  • Surface roadmap gaps and integration priorities, including SLURM, Kubernetes, virtualization/VDI, and northbound integrations.
  • Connect field PoCs with Engineering for early-access and design-partner work.
  • Ensure clean technical handoffs from pre-sales to deployment, customer success, and support.
  • Remain engaged in strategic deployments to reduce technical churn and identify expansion opportunities.

Benefits

  • Base compensation of $155,000–$175,000 depending on experience, plus unlimited commission.
