Sr Software Engineering Manager

About The Position
Join Honeywell Aerospace’s Software Center of Excellence (COE) management team within the Electronic Solutions business unit, designing, developing, and integrating complex avionics systems. This role leads a software development team and contributes across the software development life cycle, from business development through product end of life. The position provides technical and people leadership, oversees software projects and plans, coordinates third-party engineering teams, and supports internal and external customer interactions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
- 10 or more years of embedded software experience.
- 4 or more years of direct people management experience.
- Experience with certifications within regulatory industries.
- Experience developing real-time software and/or avionics systems.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status) or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

- Understanding of software development life cycles for safety-critical embedded software and architecture.
- Leadership experience coordinating and overseeing professionals from entry to senior levels, including improving team performance and work practices through coaching.
- Track record of leading technically complex development projects and transitions to production.
- Track record of executing multiple projects while meeting customer expectations.
- Ability to make timely decisions and balance systematic analysis with decisiveness in complex situations.
- Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work with little supervision.

- Inertial sensing and navigation domain knowledge.
- Aerospace or similar safety-critical industry experience.
- Knowledge of software configuration management and change management practices.
- DO-178 experience.
- Agile or SAFe-Agile experience.
- Experience with DevOps tools and processes, including Git/Bitbucket, Jira, Collaborator, Confluence, and Bamboo.
- Six Sigma development methodology experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage a software development team of approximately 15 or more software engineers.
- Create individual and team development plans with the Software Functional Chief.
- Provide career guidance, growth opportunities, and performance feedback to direct reports.
- Provide technical leadership on programs and projects.
- Coordinate and lead third-party engineering teams.
- Manage Software COE development plans and use metrics to identify plan deviations early.
- Forecast future engineering demand versus supply, including hiring responsibilities for the software team.
- Manage and provide process compliance training, including requirements, design, implementation, verification, and company-required training.
- Provide oversight of Software COE software project development and coordinate Software COE projects.
- Foster a culture aligned with Honeywell Aerospace’s key behaviors.
- Support internal and external customer interactions.
