About The Position

CrowdStrike is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer 2 for the Linux sensor engineering team. The sensor is a lightweight agent installed on client machines that observes system activity, identifies malicious behavior, provides on-device prevention, and sends telemetry to the Falcon Host cloud. It processes thousands of events per second, correlating and computing data to detect and block malicious activity. The cloud component aggregates sensor telemetry across customer networks and presents prioritized threat information to operations teams. The role owns the design and development of core Linux sensor features, spanning operating-system subsystems such as file systems, memory, processes, and networking. Some features include shared components across Windows and Mac. The team follows Agile development principles and ships frequently. This is a hybrid role requiring 2–3 days per week on-site at one of the posted locations.

Requirements

  • Ability to develop high-quality C/C++ code, demonstrated through work experience, schoolwork, or community-project contributions.
  • Experience developing Linux product code with high concurrency requirements and strong use of multithreading.
  • Experience developing Linux product code with high reliability requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of low-level operating characteristics, including kernel internals, memory usage, and kernel-level performance analysis.
  • Very strong kernel and system-software debugging skills.
  • Experience working on a team to ship major features and releases.
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a distributed team.
  • Solid design and problem-solving instincts, including the ability to own ambiguous technical problems and drive them to resolution.
  • Ability to influence technical direction across team boundaries without direct authority, using design documents, prototypes, and well-reasoned technical positions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience with Linux eBPF and other tracing technologies.
  • Background in endpoint security, EDR, kernel-adjacent software, or sensor platform engineering.
  • Open-source Linux kernel contributions, technical writing, or a visible engineering presence through conference talks or published work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise-quality Linux system software for large-scale server and cloud environments.
  • Drive technical proposals and design documents, lead design reviews, and provide substantive feedback that raises the quality of the team’s work.
  • Represent the team’s technical position in cross-organizational planning and architecture discussions, communicating tradeoffs and risks to engineering, product, and program partners.
  • Participate in planning, help scope work, identify dependencies, and flag technical risks early.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers through feedback, pairing, and collaborative code and design reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents and complex escalations, and build shared knowledge of failure modes at fleet scale.
  • Improve end-to-end testing and validation for components with strict correctness and reliability requirements.

Benefits

  • Market-leading compensation and equity awards.
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs.
  • Competitive vacation and holidays.
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves.
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees.
  • Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Vibrant office culture with world-class amenities.
  • Health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Eligibility for bonuses and equity grants.
