About The Position

The American Medical Association (AMA) is seeking a Sr Social Media Producer for their Editorial & Channel Strategy team. This hybrid role, based in Chicago, IL, requires three days a week in the office. The producer will be responsible for conceiving, producing, and crafting short-form video and graphics to support the AMA's mission. Key responsibilities include managing social media messaging during major conferences and fast-moving news events, adapting content for public and physician audiences, and contributing to the growth of the AMA's social presence, engagement, and content distribution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, multimedia production, communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience and HS diploma/equivalent education required.
  • 5+ years of professional experience creating and managing social media content required.
  • Proficient with social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Sprinklr, etc.) required.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms including, but not limited to: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X/Bluesky, Threads, and LinkedIn.
  • Advanced proficiency with tools like Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, or similar.
  • Ability to produce (including film/edit) multimedia social media content, including video, graphics, and animation.
  • Awareness of platform culture: understanding when content goes viral and why, understanding of format specs, and able to spot an emerging creative trend before it peaks.
  • Awareness and understanding of news cycles, media, and rapidly changing social media landscape.
  • Strong creative instincts required: able to write a hook, edit a reel, design a graphic, and tell a story that draws in an audience.
  • Knowledge of copyright, privacy, and compliance requirements for social media.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to take initiative and collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Management and production of major news events, including building and highlighting content around AMA announcements, breaking news, enterprise marketing campaigns, and events, with an emphasis on speed and accuracy.
  • Lead social media storytelling at major conferences by identifying themes, top quotes, and newsmaking opportunities, and translating them into content.
  • Develop a storytelling approach that breaks down complex topics into concise moments, videos, and quotes aligned with AMA priorities and resonant with general public and physician audiences.
  • Produce concept, shoot, and edit multimedia social content such as short-form video, graphics, animation, and platform-native posts.
  • Experiment with storytelling techniques, emerging formats, and creative approaches to make health content relevant.
  • Contribute to strategy development, content scheduling, quality maintenance, and deadline adherence.
  • Collaborate with the AMA Social Media Team and business units to translate complex health topics into clear, compelling visual assets optimized for social media.
  • Monitor digital trends and conversations to identify new content opportunities.
  • Track and analyze social media metrics to inform and adjust current and future campaigns and content.
  • Contribute to social media reporting, translating performance metrics into actionable recommendations.
  • Utilize social media management and analytics tools to monitor key performance indicators.
  • Monitor social media conversations and trends for timely engagement and storytelling opportunities.
  • May include other responsibilities as assigned.
