About The Position

Ensure effective implementation of a company-wide Protection Services program. Develop, oversee and implement programs to meet regulatory requirements, protect Company assets and prevent the loss/damage to Xcel Energy personnel, property, and information. Responsible for the implementation of a broad range of strategic security consultative services as directed by Enterprise Security management. Oversee and conduct complex investigations and act as mentor for other investigative staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business, Public Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • At least seven years of industrial security experience in a corporate environment.
  • Ability to interface with and/or collaborate with others to develop security solutions that fit within the business framework and budget.
  • Ability to work alone and make critical decisions with little input from senior management.
  • Demonstrated, expert knowledge of investigative strategies and techniques, to include interviewing.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet situational demands.
  • Ability to travel with little advanced warning.
  • Subject to 24 -hour on-call status and response.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, consult and conduct security risk assessments and security surveys in accordance with regulatory and non-regulatory requirements, standards, guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Recommend appropriate asset protection measures/loss prevention strategies and controls to reduce Company exposure to terrorism, theft, property damage, and liability at facilities.
  • Provide consultations to business unit leadership and Enterprise Security management on proposed protective measures.
  • Work with Security Systems team to design practical, effective and cost-effective security systems based on survey recommendations that will both meet regulatory requirements, as well as improve the security of each site.
  • Implement and participate in the department's incident intake and investigations program.
  • Mentor and offer advice on investigations to Protection Services Consultants.
  • Work with management to deliver the necessary facts to and participate in making appropriate decisions regarding security and the disposition of cases involving suspected loss of company assets and/or violation of company code of conduct and other policies.
  • Review case files and department database for completeness and thoroughness, with the objective of creating consistency within the department.
  • Personally conduct critical investigations involving high visibility or risk to the corporation.
  • Supervise, create and update site-specific security plans for all required sites.
  • Coordinate with site management and ensure the plan addresses regulatory and asset protection requirements.
  • Partner with Protection Services staff to assess the site to ensure the plan is being followed.
  • Lead coordinator in the department's special event and emergency response programs ensuring that the events are coordinated with Xcel Energy business units, law enforcement agencies and vendors.
  • Planning encompasses threat assessment and identification of measures to deter, detect and respond to potential contingencies.
  • Work with the Director and affected Regional Manager to develop action plans for special events and projects.
  • Participate in the department's emergency response program.
  • Coordinate with Xcel Energy business units and law enforcement agencies to ensure proper communication protocols are in place.
  • Provide supervision and management for key Capital and O&M projects as determined by Enterprise Security management.
  • Review and update all non- regulated Enterprise Security general procedures ensuring that they correctly identify all policies and necessary steps for proper notification to management.
  • Develop, supervise, and present regulated and non-regulated security awareness programs to ensure timely and effective communication of security related information to management, employees and contractors.
  • Reviewing existing policies and procedures that have security implications and making necessary recommendations to management on process improvements.
  • Develop and deploy loss prevention/asset protection strategies at facilities.
