About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This role is responsible for overseeing the engineering and technical disciplines required to successfully deliver projects. The Senior Program Engineer plans projects, establishes project criteria, coordinates project reviews, and ensures the effective implementation of all project elements. The incumbent will schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from concept through completion. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship and cannot hire individuals with CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience in a program engineer capacity OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience in a program engineer capacity
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental understanding of engineering and construction contracts, as well as the technical documentation required for a complete bid and construction package.
  • Experience as a consulting design engineer with a regional or national engineering firm.
  • Moderate knowledge in civil, structural, or geotechnical design and construction.
  • Experience developing detailed scopes of work for external engineering firms and managing their work, progress, and delivery of high-quality engineering and construction documents.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Experience overseeing engineering consultants (sub-consultants) and negotiating scope, schedule, and budget to meet project requirements is strongly preferred.
  • General knowledge of traditional power plant systems and renewable energy systems is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support Agile project delivery by helping balance team performance with tight deadlines.
  • Develop specifications for required project equipment.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA/QC policies, and performance requirements.
  • Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to project managers and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects.
  • Assign responsibilities and mentor project team members.
  • Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and develop a deep understanding of their objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
