About The Position

The Senior Power BI Analyst owns the dashboards and reporting used across the business. This is a Power BI–first, stakeholder-facing role focused primarily on designing, building, and maintaining Power BI dashboards while partnering with Finance, Operations, Sales, and Marketing to turn ambiguous business questions into clear, trusted, decision-ready analytics. The role requires a baseline understanding of data architecture, including layered warehouses and dimensional models, to collaborate effectively with data engineering and produce performant, reliable reports. The analyst owns the Power BI reporting layer, including semantic models, dashboards, report lifecycle, publishing, security, governance, documentation, and self-service enablement. Data engineering owns ingestion, pipelines, and raw/transformed layers; the analyst partners with that team on data contracts, required datasets, freshness expectations, and reporting-layer schemas. This is a hybrid role based in Montvale, New Jersey.

Requirements

  • Hands-on expertise in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, and row-level security, with the ability to build and maintain dashboards independently end to end.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including writing and optimizing complex queries; BigQuery is preferred.
  • Proven ability to gather requirements, translate business questions into metrics, and communicate clearly with non-technical audiences.
  • Strong data-visualization judgment, including dashboard user experience and data storytelling.
  • Baseline understanding of dimensional modeling (star/snowflake), layered warehouse concepts, and how curated datasets are produced.
  • 5–7 years of experience in business intelligence, Power BI development, analytics, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a business-first mindset, and excellent cross-functional communication.
  • Ability to connect Power BI directly to a cloud data warehouse; BigQuery is preferred.

  • Own Power BI semantic models, including star-schema models, relationships, measures, and calculation logic that are performant and reusable.
  • Optimize models, DAX, and queries for speed and reliability; make Import versus DirectQuery choices and manage refresh and query costs against BigQuery.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, and Marketing to clarify business problems and translate them into KPIs, metric definitions, and appropriate visuals, confirming requirements before building.
  • Apply data-visualization best practices to provide clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Promote trusted, well-documented reports and datasets and help business users use them independently.
  • Document requirements, metric definitions, reporting logic, data models, and report catalogs; establish repeatable processes and standards for intake, prioritization, development, and validation of reporting requests.
  • Publish and manage workspaces, apps, and scheduled or gateway-managed refreshes in Power BI Service; maintain, troubleshoot, and support user acceptance testing throughout the report lifecycle.
  • Implement row-level security and follow governance best practices.
