About The Position

As a member of the data center engineering team, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer designs, builds, and activates technically advanced data center facilities. The role serves as the subject matter expert on thermal management, pumping, flow control, HVAC, and other critical fluid systems, applying engineering knowledge and creativity to develop solutions for data center and compute technology. Work includes design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of data center systems and support elements, in collaboration with other engineering disciplines, construction managers, architects, and internal customers. The position is based in Memphis, Tennessee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience working with fluid components such as valves, pumps, COPVs, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure transducers, or temperature sensors.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record of effective management and leadership.
  • Consulting experience in the data center market; AI-specific experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid (liquid and/or gas) handling systems.
  • Experience using data acquisition equipment, test instrumentation, and control components such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, and relays.
  • Experience with HVAC systems and air ducting.
  • Experience with REVIT and a solid understanding and application of parametric design tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Own fluid and HVAC components across data center builds and serve as the subject matter expert for systems and components including chillers, pumps, dry coolers, chemical treatment, water storage, building pressurization, comfort heating and cooling, heat exchangers, and valves.
  • Perform CAD modeling and design of systems, resolving design conflicts with other disciplines in three dimensions.
  • Perform fluid analyses for pressure balance, component design allowables, and consumables determination.
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction, and other disciplines to select, apply, and procure equipment that meets build timeline, cost, and performance requirements.
  • For designs intended for internal manufacturing partners, ensure designs are manufacturable and reliable, and work with production teams to transition designs into reliable manufacturing processes that require minimal design-engineering sustainment.
