About The Position

As a member of SpaceXSI’s data center engineering team, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer will design, build, and activate technically advanced data center facilities. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert on thermal management, pumping, flow control, HVAC, and other critical fluid systems. The role involves designing, analyzing, testing, and supporting the manufacture of data center systems and related elements, while working with engineering disciplines, construction managers, architects, and internal customers to identify needs and accomplish goals. The position is based in Memphis, Tennessee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10 or more years of professional experience working with fluid components such as valves, pumps, COPVs, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure transducers, or temperature sensors.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record of effective management and leadership.
  • Consulting experience in the data center market; AI-specific experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with liquid and/or gas fluid-handling systems.
  • Experience using data acquisition equipment, test instrumentation, and control components such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, and relays.
  • Experience with HVAC systems and air ducting.
  • Experience with REVIT and a solid understanding and application of parametric design tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Own fluid and HVAC components across data center builds and serve as the subject matter expert on chillers, pumps, dry coolers, chemical treatment, water storage, building pressurization, comfort heating and cooling, heat exchangers, valves, and related systems.
  • Perform CAD modeling and design for fluid and HVAC systems.
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines in three dimensions.
  • Perform fluid analyses for pressure balance, component design allowables, and consumables determination.
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction, and other disciplines to select, apply, and procure equipment that meets build timelines, cost profiles, and performance requirements.
  • For designs intended for internal manufacturing partners, ensure manufacturability and reliability, and work with production teams to transition designs into reliable manufacturing processes with minimal engineering sustainment.
