Sr Mechanical Engineer, HV Charging & Power Electronics

Lucid MotorsNewark, CA
$144,000 - $198,000Onsite

About The Position

As a member of our High Voltage (HV) Design team, you will lead the development of next-generation high voltage power electronics that directly impact vehicle charging performance, efficiency, cost, reliability, and customer experience across future Lucid vehicle platforms. You will investigate electro-mechanical challenges and implement innovative solutions. You will drive every stage of the process, from concept to production, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create solutions that bolster Lucid’s engineering dominance in the EV world. We compromise nothing and heavily value first principles engineering. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude, demonstrates excellence in their respective fields, and possesses the ability to adapt quickly within a fast-paced environment. They are always striving to push the envelope of what’s possible.

Requirements

  • Ideally 3-6 years of relevant work experience but open to all levels of experience if paired with strong technical proficiency.
  • Rock-solid Mechanical Engineering fundamentals and a flair for creative problem-solving.
  • Experience packaging complex electromechanical assemblies with consideration for thermal, structural, electrical isolation, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Experience developing liquid-cooled power electronics assemblies including cold plates, thermal interfaces, heat spreaders, and coolant sealing systems.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage product design considerations, including insulation systems, creepage and clearance, grounding, shielding, and HV safety requirements.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills, proficient with CATIA or similar software.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and Creepage & Clearance principles.
  • Proven Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) experience across injection molded plastics, sheet metal, die castings, busbars, gaskets, adhesives, and PCBA-integrated assemblies.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis methods, such as 8D.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automotive engineering and product validation (environmental testing, shock/drop, etc).
  • Experience designing high-voltage power electronic products such as onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, inverters, HV junction boxes, battery disconnect units, or similar electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with FEA tools (Ansys or similar software) for structural and thermal analysis.
  • Experience supporting APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, and production launch activities.
  • Experience working directly with automotive suppliers and contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical architecture, packaging, integration, and validation of core power electronics systems, including onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and HV junction boxes.
  • Managing every aspect of design engineering from concept to production and beyond.
  • Develop system-level solutions that balance electrical performance, mechanical robustness, manufacturability, cost, serviceability, and customer experience.
  • Lead supplier technical reviews, DFMEA reviews, tooling reviews, validation alignment, and production launch activities.
  • Design, build, and test your prototypes.
  • Define and support executing environmental, vibration, thermal shock, temperature cycling, ingress protection, durability, and mechanical qualification testing.
  • Drive design changes based on test results and real-world feedback.
  • Continuously optimize designs for cost and performance without sacrificing safety or reliability.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, lead internal design reviews, and drive engineering decisions through analysis, testing, and first-principles reasoning.
  • Embrace new challenges and expand your engineering skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
