Sr. Mechanical CAD (MCAD) Designer

BorgWarner•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

BorgWarner is seeking a Senior Mechanical CAD (MCAD) Designer for its Industrial Power Solutions team in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The role drives clean-sheet mechanical designs from concept through production and owns MCAD work ranging from top-level assemblies to detailed components and complex tooled parts. The designer creates large, detailed MCAD models, building robust geometry efficiently to support rapid iteration and design maturity. The Industrial Power Solutions team designs and manufactures hardware for industrial power systems, including grid-tied inverters, in-rack power supply units, and DC/DC converters. It works with lean processes and relatively short design cycles, typically around one year, in an agile environment that encourages quick decisions and close team engagement. The position includes mentoring junior designers, organizing work to meet project milestones, communicating recovery strategies when challenges arise, and conducting design reviews. The role must follow BorgWarner’s Global Star Safety Program and applicable local safety policies, including required safety practices, training, equipment, and reporting of injuries or potentially dangerous situations. The position is based in a hybrid work environment. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship may be available based on business need.

  • Organize and plan work to meet project milestones; communicate clear recovery strategies when challenges arise.
  • Create clean-sheet MCAD designs for industrial power system products, including inverters, power supply units, and DC/DC converters.
  • Create clean-sheet MCAD designs for components including cast housings, isolation systems, HV bus bars, harnesses, liquid-cooled heat sinks, PCB packages, and stampings.
  • Create expert-level 3D CAD models using NX.
  • Create 2D drafting sheets in NX and apply GD&T to communicate design intent.
