Delart is hiring a mid-to-senior mechanical design engineer for a hardware team developing autonomous vehicle and robotics systems in Sunnyvale, California. The role designs metal structures, sensor brackets, and electronics enclosures, ranging from small PCBA housings with heat sinks to large structural enclosures, and takes designs from 3D CAD through released 2D drawings. Structural and thermal judgment are important alongside CAD capability. This is a long-term contract position. The designer develops electronics and sensor enclosures, mostly from sheet metal, machined parts, or castings, with some plastic parts. The role also designs PCBA enclosures, heat sinks, and thermal paths at the box level; sensor brackets and mounts; and designs that withstand vibration, shock, and thermal loads. Designs are checked using hand calculations and structural and thermal FEA, then revised as needed. The designer creates 3D parts and assemblies, releases production drawings with GD&T to ASME Y14.5, and works with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers while maintaining clean CAD data, revisions, and documentation.
