Sr. Manager, Data Partnerships

Subway•Shelton, CT

About The Position

The Sr. Manager, Data Partnerships is a business-facing partner who works directly with stakeholders across the organization to agree, record, certify, and defend the business definitions that make Subway’s data trustworthy for AI-driven and self-service use. The role owns what data means, rather than what gets built, and uses Claude and Claude Code hands-on to prototype and move faster. The position defines and owns business measures, their grain, and the dimensions by which they can be analyzed; makes final decisions on contested definitions when consensus is unavailable; and escalates disputes without an identifiable decision-maker or those with significant financial, operational, or regulatory consequences. It builds proactive stakeholder relationships, independently decides whether and when to certify definitions, and draws on technical validation from the Sr. Product Manager, Data Foundation when needed. The role also prototypes definitions and explores data with Claude and Claude Code, defines what AI/ML models, agents, and systems need to get right, and assesses whether they have done so. It reviews data sensitivity classifications, advocates for business needs, provides input on prioritization when asked without owning prioritization decisions, and hands requests to the Delivery team when they shift from defining meaning to delivering solutions. Prototyping does not include owning production delivery.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience translating business operations into data definitions, requirements, or governance.
  • A track record of holding a position with senior stakeholders during genuine disagreement.
  • Sufficient technical grounding to evaluate data grain and certification decisions and know when to challenge them, without personally building pipelines, models, or agents.
  • Basic SQL and data engineering fundamentals sufficient to evaluate a grain decision firsthand.
  • Comfort using Claude and Claude Code directly to prototype definitions, explore data, or sketch work for engineering, exercising independent judgment.
  • Fluency in Subway’s business operations, including restaurants, franchising, and franchisee economics.
  • Background in business analysis, data governance, analytics leadership, or client success/product success, with strong data fluency.

  • Engage business stakeholders regularly and proactively to understand operations, stakeholder priorities, and implications for data definitions.
  • Independently decide whether and when to formally certify a definition as trustworthy, using technical validation from the Sr. Product Manager, Data Foundation when needed.
  • Use Claude and Claude Code to prototype definitions, explore data, and create sketches for engineering to build from.
  • Define what AI/ML models, agents, and systems need to get right and assess whether they meet those expectations.
