Sr Java Developer
About The Position
At Schwab Technology Services, the Sr Java Developer will work on the Thematic Core Services team within Thematic Investing, supporting an innovative client experience that gives investors access to curated investment themes backed by Schwab research. The developer will design and deliver scalable, high-performing applications and services that support business growth and strong client experiences. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and enhancing modern microservices and API-driven solutions in collaboration with architects, product teams, business partners, and engineers. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise and sound decision-making, help optimize application performance, mentor team members, and improve development practices. The role’s contributions will influence the reliability, scalability, and evolution of Schwab’s Thematic Investing platform. The position is intended to be performed on site in the specified location(s). The role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities in addition to the salary range.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of professional Java software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java SE/EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services.
- Experience designing and developing APIs and scalable backend applications.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
- Ability to apply object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and analytical problem-solving to complex technical challenges.
- Experience collaborating across product, business analysis, quality assurance, and engineering teams in Agile or Scrum environments.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and contribute to secure, reliable, and maintainable software.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Experience reviewing code, sharing engineering practices, and mentoring or developing other software professionals.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements supporting performance, reliability, scalability, and business outcomes.
