About The Position

The Sr. Insurance Verification Representative verifies patients’ insurance information and eligibility, obtains required authorizations and referrals, and responds to inquiries about insurance coverage and claims. The role also updates financial classifications, links referrals and alternative insurance payers to the appropriate visits or programs, and identifies non-contracted HMO payers for referral to the appropriate department. The representative serves as a lead and assists with training new staff, while following University and unit-level policies and safeguarding University assets. Duties may be expanded as necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience, certification, or license.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
• Ability to collaborate with others and contribute to a team environment.
• Technical proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance information for scheduled appointments and contact payers to confirm eligibility and authorization requirements.
• Add or update financial status classifications in appropriate systems.
• Contact caregivers and patients with HMO payers to obtain authorizations and referrals.
• Generate and link referrals to the appropriate visit after authorization is obtained.
• Respond to customer inquiries about insurance coverage of services and claims processing.
• Follow procedures to link alternative insurance plan payers to appropriate programs during registration.
• Identify non-contracted HMO payers and refer them to the appropriate managing department.
• Serve as a lead Insurance Verification Representative and assist in training new staff.
• Follow University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
