About The Position

The Sr. Insurance Verification Representative verifies insurance information with patients for scheduled appointments and contacts payers to confirm eligibility and authorization requirements. The role updates financial status classifications, obtains HMO authorizations and referrals from caregivers and patients, and links approved referrals to the appropriate visits. It also responds to questions about insurance coverage and claims, follows procedures for assigning alternative insurance payers during registration, and refers non-contracted HMO payers to the appropriate department. The representative serves as a lead and helps train new staff while following University and unit policies and safeguarding University assets. Duties may be expanded as necessary. The University of Miami seeks candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification, or license, and at least three years of relevant experience. The role calls for learning agility, teamwork, technical proficiency, and strong written and verbal communication skills. This is a full-time staff position at UHealth-University of Miami Health System.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification, or license.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environment.
Proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Verify insurance information with patients for scheduled appointments and contact payers to confirm eligibility and authorization requirements.
Add or update financial status classifications in appropriate systems.
Contact caregivers and patients for HMO payers to obtain authorizations and referrals.
Generate and link referrals to the appropriate visit once authorization is obtained.
Respond to customer inquiries regarding insurance coverage of services and claims processing.
Follow procedures to link alternative insurance plan payers to appropriate programs during registration.
Identify non-contracted HMO payers and refer them to the appropriate managing department.
Serve as a lead Insurance Verification Representative and assist with training new staff.
Follow University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
