About The Position

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Health & Safety, the Sr./Health & Safety Advisor partners with Operations to strengthen safety performance and regulatory compliance through the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Management System. In an assigned region/area, the role provides expert guidance on hazard identification, risk mitigation, incident prevention, and safety culture, supporting sites including Farm Stores, Corporate Petroleum and Agents. Based on specific area(s) of expertise, the role also leads the design, implementation, and sustainment of specialized programs and initiatives. The position requires approximately 50% travel within the Peace or Edmonton North region and participation in the after-hours on-call rotation as part of the Duty Officer program, as scheduled.

Requirements

  • University degree or postsecondary diploma with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • CRSP designation (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and common business software applications.
  • Ability to influence, plan, coach and build capability across operational teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary Occupational Health and Safety diploma or certificate.
  • Experience with COR/SECOR certification and auditing programs.
  • Expertise in: Incident investigation training with a root-cause focus.
  • Contractor pre-qualification systems (e.g., ComplyWorks, Avetta, ISN).
  • Emergency management (including ICS).
  • Manual materials handling and ergonomics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance to minimize environmental, health and safety risk and liability through effective implementation of the UFA Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS).
  • Support sites (including Farm Stores, Corporate Petroleum and Agents) with hands-on technical expertise to integrate EH&S requirements into day-to-day operations.
  • Triage and prioritize service requests based on risk and business impact, responding promptly and ensuring clear stakeholder communication.
  • Conduct site inspections, assessments and audits to identify gaps and recommend improvements to EH&S processes and controls.
  • Drive corrective actions to closure from investigations, inspections and audits, verifying implementation effectiveness and documenting outcomes.
  • Partner with Operations to plan, design, implement and embed practical EH&S processes that improve field execution and compliance.
  • Administer and improve assigned EH&S systems and tools (e.g., MSDS database, e-learning delivery, emergency contact information, incident management, legislative updates).
  • Sustain and continuously improve a comprehensive EHSMS aligned to COR requirements to ensure safe workplaces, regulatory compliance, and measurable EH&S performance improvement.
  • Identify, assess and control EH&S hazards and exposures, recommending and validating effective controls (engineering, administrative, PPE) as appropriate.
  • Contribute to a high-performing H&S team by sharing expertise, providing coverage, and supporting cross-functional initiatives as required.
  • Provide coverage and after-hours emergency on-call support as assigned and scheduled as part of the Duty Officer program.
  • Lead in-person and online training for employees as assigned and scheduled as part of the SafeStart program.
  • Areas of technical specialty may include one or more of the following: Incident investigations (lead or participate as required), including causal analysis, root cause identification and corrective action development; Duty Officer program, emergency response planning and related programs; Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and associated transportation programs and regulations; Manual materials handling and ergonomics; Contractor health and safety pre-qualification systems (e.g. ComplyWorks, Avetta, ISN); Internal COR and external COR/SECOR certification, auditing programs across the enterprise (including any affiliated companies, agencies and contractors).
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to H&S team members in their specific area(s) of expertise (i.e. investigations, emergency response planning, construction, material handling, AWSA, etc.)
