About The Position

Avantor is seeking a Fabrication Mechanic responsible for fabrication work, including cutting, welding, sheet metal work, metal finishing, and machinery assembly. The role fabricates and modifies fixtures, machinery, and fittings by laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring, and welding metals and other materials.

The Fabrication Mechanic applies welding standards and standard operating procedures, and works from drawings, blueprints, manuals, and verbal or written instructions to install, repair, replace, and maintain machinery, plumbing and piping, and sometimes electrical systems. The role troubleshoots and repairs machinery, process equipment, facility systems, and components under limited supervision; initiates purchase orders for parts, machines, or contracted services; and proactively identifies and corrects mechanical and safety issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge or experience with welding processes (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW), sheet metal work, pipefitting, plumbing, machining (mill and lathe), engineering drawing interpretation, equipment repair troubleshooting, heavy machinery rigging over 1,000 lb., basic math, and geometry.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and modify fixtures, machinery, and miscellaneous fittings, including laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring, and welding materials.
• Apply relevant welding standards and follow standard operating procedures to meet engineering project requirements.
• Use drawings, blueprints, manuals, and verbal or written instructions to install, repair, replace, and maintain machinery, plumbing and piping, and, in some cases, electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair machinery, process equipment, facility systems, and components under limited supervision.
• Initiate purchase orders for parts, machines, or contracted services.
• Identify and correct mechanical and safety issues proactively.
