About The Position

Target is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Operational Technology (OT) Security team. The manager will lead Lead Engineers responsible for building, operating, integrating, automating, and scaling security capabilities across Target’s OT infrastructure. The team owns platforms and data pipelines that provide OT asset visibility, prioritize exposure, harden endpoints and configurations, and route findings to operational teams for safe, prioritized remediation. The role partners with Infrastructure, Supply Chain, Architecture, Network Security, IAM, Vendor Risk, OT Infrastructure, and site teams on initiatives including OT network segmentation, vendor-access controls, backup and restore, and identity and access. The manager translates ISA/IEC 62443-aligned requirements into engineering patterns and a prioritized roadmap, coordinates exceptions and change windows, and provides hands-on engineering support for the highest-risk findings. The manager owns the engineering lifecycle and production operation of OT security platforms, including asset visibility and exposure tools, endpoint-security capabilities, and data pipelines into enterprise dashboards, ticketing systems, and remediation workflows. The role emphasizes service objectives, availability, performance, observability, data quality, incident response, on-call coverage, change safety, automation, self-service, and continuous improvement. It also includes team hiring, development, performance management, operating-model design, vendor and tool lifecycle management, and communicating roadmaps, risks, outcomes, and tradeoffs to senior leadership. Work arrangements may be remote or hybrid based on Target’s needs. Work must be performed within the country of the primary work location unless otherwise prescribed by Target.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on technology experience, with deep experience in OT and security engineering and adjacent disciplines such as asset visibility, vulnerability and exposure management, endpoint security, data engineering and automation, and enterprise remediation and governance integrations.
  • At least 3 years managing engineering teams, with a strong delivery record in platform, infrastructure, software development, or security engineering in an OT context.
  • Experience hiring, growing, and retaining senior engineering talent and building or evolving team operating models.
  • Experience managing engineers across hiring, performance, career development, on-call culture, code review standards, postmortems, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience operating production platforms with service objectives, on-call coverage, change management, and continuous-improvement processes in environments where availability, safety, and operational continuity are critical.
  • Experience delivering multi-quarter roadmaps from problem framing through rollout, adoption, and steady-state operation.
  • Experience making build-versus-buy decisions, managing vendor relationships and tool lifecycles, and determining when to use custom engineering or a platform.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams that operate OT and/or ICS security platforms at scale.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ISA/IEC 62443 and adjacent frameworks such as NIST CSF and NIST SP 800-82 sufficient to align team controls to them.
  • Experience deploying and operating endpoint-security agents on OT-adjacent or constrained endpoints, including compatibility testing, health monitoring, and exception handling.
  • Experience building and operating findings pipelines that integrate security signals into enterprise remediation and governance platforms, including ownership attribution and SLAs.
  • Experience using security tools and technologies across diverse environments and implementing end-to-end solutions aligned with security architecture requirements.
  • Automation-first mindset and hands-on fluency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python or Go, with experience building reusable platforms and paved roads.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure as code, such as Terraform, and CI/CD; comfort integrating security tooling into modern engineering workflows.
  • Strong understanding of distribution-center automation, industrial control systems, or vendor-managed OT environments.
  • Experience with or exposure to OT network segmentation, vendor-access controls, and OT backup and recovery.
  • Ability to partner across Security Architecture, BISO, Network Security, OT Infrastructure, and site teams to align requirements, rollout plans, and operational ownership.
  • Ability to present team work, risks, and tradeoffs to senior leadership and explain technical details to staff engineers.
  • Understanding of security-management workflows in large enterprises and complex environments, the OT threat landscape, and common organizational challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Curiosity, bias for action, and a builder’s mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, build, and develop a team of Lead Engineers responsible for implementing and operating Target’s OT security capabilities.
  • Establish stakeholder communication, work closely with partner teams, and drive requirements while advocating safe, efficient, and secure OT engineering practices.
  • Manage a high-performing engineering team, including coaching, motivation, staffing recommendations, operating procedures, tools, and systems.
  • Provide career development and performance management for engineers.
  • Set engineering standards and culture for code quality, testing, reviews, on-call practices, postmortems, change safety, and operational excellence.
  • Own the end-to-end engineering, deployment, configuration, and operation of OT security platforms and their data pipelines.
  • Operate OT security platforms as production systems, with responsibility for availability, performance, observability, coverage, data quality, upgrades, incident response, service objectives, and on-call coverage.
  • Own OT vulnerability and exposure management, including intake, normalization, correlation, deduplication, enrichment, and risk prioritization based on operational consequence and other relevant factors.
  • Develop secure-configuration hardening patterns, identify deviations, prioritize gaps, and validate remediation for in-scope OT.
  • Own OT endpoint-security work, including eligibility, compatibility testing, pilots, deployment, health monitoring, rollback, exception handling, and compensating-control recommendations.
  • Provide engineering support for high-risk OT findings and enable OT Infrastructure, site teams, system owners, and vendors to make changes through their operational processes.
  • Own OT security data pipelines, including APIs, connectors, schemas, transformations, enrichment, reconciliation, routing, and monitoring into enterprise dashboards, ticketing systems, and remediation workflows.
  • Partner with Network Security on OT network segmentation and with IAM and Vendor Risk on vendor-access controls; provide asset, traffic-flow, exposure, and operational-context data.
  • Translate ISA/IEC 62443-aligned requirements into a prioritized engineering roadmap and deliver against it predictably.
  • Drive multi-quarter initiatives from problem framing and scoping through design, build, rollout, adoption, and steady-state operation.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions and manage OT security tool lifecycles, vendor relationships, evaluations, proof-of-concepts, contract input, capability adoption, and sunsetting.
  • Drive control adoption across in-scope OT environments, including onboarding, exception and governance workflows, and enablement of OT Infrastructure and site teams.
  • Treat the OT security control plane as a product by investing in automation, self-service, and scalable platform practices.
  • Reduce operational toil through paved roads, improved defaults, and faster remediation feedback loops.
  • Provide security engineering consultation on new or materially changed OT solutions, including vendor evaluations, design reviews, endpoint compatibility, hardening, vulnerability-management expectations, telemetry, and integration planning.
  • Communicate the team’s roadmap, risk reduction, operational health, and tradeoffs to senior leadership.
