The role supports instrumentation and electrical reliability across plant operations, including control valves, analyzers, process measurement applications, and motors. The work is performed mainly in a control room or office, with physical presence required and some work in operating units and other plant environments.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent progressive engineering experience.
  • At least eight years of experience performing engineering design responsibilities in a refinery, chemical, or petrochemical plant.
  • Ability to work in a control room or office setting and in operating units, enclosed spaces, confined spaces, and areas with various hazards.
  • Ability to respond to audible emergency alarms and evacuate the plant when required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally by air or automobile.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands described in the posting, including lifting and moving loads up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate control valve and analyzer equipment failures to identify root causes and recommend solutions that reduce or eliminate recurrence.
  • Evaluate preventive and predictive maintenance programs, identify improvement opportunities, and implement changes as needed.
  • Recommend and specify instrumentation for process measurement applications.
  • Provide technical support to Maintenance, Operations, and Environmental groups on instrumentation issues.
  • Develop job scopes and drawing packages for small instrumentation and electrical projects.
  • Support the Project Group in specifying instrumentation for capital projects and review design packages for reliability, application, and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain the instrumentation database, including tag, manufacturer, model, calibration, and calibration-history information.
  • Maintain documentation for instrumentation and electrical equipment, including equipment files, drawings, specifications, calibration sheets, and manuals.
  • Maintain technical expertise and stay current with instrumentation technology and design changes relevant to plant equipment and production improvements.
  • Improve the reliability of process gas chromatograph and mass spectrometry analyzers, and provide technical support for analyzer additions and upgrades.
  • Improve process control valve reliability; develop performance-monitoring and remediation plans; and assist Maintenance with repair and upgrade scopes for major turnarounds.
  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal and site-wide safety; promptly report safety, health, or environmental incidents or issues to management; and attend weekly and monthly safety meetings.
  • Become familiar with motors in the 100–5,000 Hp range, including their starting and running characteristics and applications.
