Sr. Electrical Engineer - Radio Device RF Architecture Engineer

Motorola Solutions•Plantation, FL
•$108,100 - $136,700•Onsite

About The Position

Motorola Solutions’ Advanced Development Engineering team in Plantation, Florida, designs and develops mission-critical communications equipment, including RF modems, integrated circuits, and related circuit modules and subsystems. The Radio Device RF System Engineer develops radio transceiver mixed-signal subsystems using commercial off-the-shelf ICs and RF components, as well as custom CMOS technologies, for high-reliability public safety communications equipment. The systems are intended for integration into Motorola Solutions radio products. The engineer translates product-level radio requirements into microarchitectural specifications, develops behavioral system models, and manages block-level specifications to meet overall system performance goals. The role also evaluates and integrates third-party RF IP, optimizes power and thermal performance across operating modes, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams from circuit and system specification through silicon tape-out, bring-up, testing, and deployment. This position is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, in Plantation, Florida. Travel is under 10%, and relocation is not provided. The target base salary range is $108,100–$136,700 USD; actual pay depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of radio transceiver design experience.
  • Proven digital radio transceiver development experience from concept through shipping product.
  • Background in RF and mixed-signal IC design and RF PCB design.
  • Experience modeling, designing, and verifying analog/mixed-signal circuit blocks and feedback-control subsystems such as PLLs and AGC, using Cadence or equivalent CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of multi-loop feedback control systems and their modeling.
  • Experience assessing third-party IP and commercial off-the-shelf ICs for modem development.
  • Experience with Verilog-A, Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog, or UVM for mixed-signal designs.
  • Familiarity with shell and scripting languages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to drive technical alignment across multidisciplinary global teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with digital signal processing for modulation and demodulation in a faded radio-channel environment.

Responsibilities

  • Translate product-level radio requirements into microarchitectural specifications for mixed-signal circuits, especially RF systems involving PLLs, fractional multi-loop synthesizers, baseband and RF amplifiers and filters, AGC subsystems, and digital state machines for RF control.
  • Work with radio product development hardware and software architects to achieve product-level requirements.
  • Develop behavioral system models to determine and manage block-level specifications for radio modem lineups, with a focus on the RF system.
  • Arbitrate block-level specification adjustments during design to achieve system performance goals in finished silicon and the completed radio product.
  • Collaborate with internal and external IP providers to integrate RF IP blocks into a system-on-chip.
  • Develop power-modeling and thermal-management strategies across operating modes and low-power states of RF, digital, and analog mixed-signal systems.
  • Collaborate with digital design, analog layout, firmware/software, verification, radio product, and test engineering teams from specification through tape-out, bring-up, testing, and product deployment.
