About The Position

The Sr. Database Administrator supports the utilities SQL Server databases and ensures their performance, availability, and security across production and development environments. The role monitors database systems to provide reliable, secure services with minimal downtime; troubleshoots SQL development issues; and maintains, upgrades, and releases database changes. It also creates and tests backup and disaster recovery plans, provides trend analysis to management to support resource decisions, develops knowledge of current and emerging applications and technologies, and establishes and enforces IT application standards.

Requirements

• Strong self-sufficiency and initiative when working on database projects.
• Ability to manage internal and external MS SQL database security.
• Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of experience developing Windows and/or web-based SQL applications.
• 1–3 years of experience in a database management role.
• Experience managing multiple Microsoft SQL 2005/2008 databases on large systems.
• Practical experience monitoring and tuning databases.
• In-depth, hands-on experience with Transactional SQL and stored procedures.
• In-depth SQL Server database administration experience.

• Microsoft SQL Server certification.

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor database systems to ensure available and secure services with minimal downtime.
• Troubleshoot and solve SQL development problems.
• Create, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery plans.
• Maintain databases, including rollouts and upgrades.
• Implement and release database changes.
• Provide trend analysis to management to inform resource decisions.
• Develop knowledge of current IT applications and technology to ensure solutions meet division objectives.
• Acquire knowledge of emerging technologies and analyze and offer solutions to current business application challenges.
• Develop and enforce the division’s IT application standards.
