About The Position

Hendrick Motorsports, a leader in the auto racing industry, is currently seeking a Sr. 5-Axis CNC Machinist / Programmer. This role is tasked with creating and revising programs for CNC machinery. The ideal candidate must understand and interpret complex technical drawings and translate them into executable CNC programs. The role demands a high level of precision and attention to detail to ensure that machine outputs meet exact specifications and quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Siemens NX software and programming highly desired.
  • CAD skills or experience with similar software programs preferred.
  • Certificate in Machining or a related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and program CNC machines with data from technical drawings or specifications.
  • Create or modify 5-axis CNC programs for production runs including entering instructions, setting tool registers, and calculating requirements.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents or solutions and rags.
  • Responsible for cleaning the shop and ensuring safe housekeeping on an ongoing basis.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
  • Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.
  • Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed to perform required requested work.
