Sr. Backend Engineer, AutoScaling & Balancing, NG-SIEM (Hybrid)

CrowdStrike•Redmond, WA
•$140,000 - $220,000•Hybrid

About The Position

CrowdStrike is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for its NG-SIEM AutoScaling & Balancing work. The role supports the mission of making customers’ security-relevant data continuously available for automated detection and response, threat hunting, and other Falcon use cases. NG-SIEM systems handle more than 100 PB of event and action data ingested daily, retention of up to 10 years, and tens of millions of queries per hour across large portions of stored data. The engineer will work on large-scale distributed and control systems in a multi-tenant platform, with a focus on intelligent customer placement, auto balancing, and autoscaling. The central challenge is to preserve performance for each customer while improving overall resource utilization and infrastructure density. The role also requires deep understanding of LogScale’s ingestion, storage, and query internals so that scaling and placement decisions reflect actual system behavior. This is a hybrid role based at one of the posted locations: Sunnyvale, California; Redmond, Washington; New York City; or Austin, Texas, with a strong preference for candidates in Austin. The engineer will deliver key system components as an individual contributor, lead the team through ambiguous problems, operate the systems they build, and coordinate technical strategy with technical leads and principal engineers across the LogScale platform. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and may periodically need to pass additional background and fingerprint checks consistent with government customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  • At least 7 years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining multiple software products, systems, or releases, preferably in a SaaS delivery model, across development lifecycle phases and multiple software stacks.
  • At least 4 years of experience as an engineer in a force-multiplying position, delivering through others.
  • At least 3 years of current hands-on engineering experience owning a distributed system that handled tens of billions of requests per day or more than 1 PB of data per day.
  • Demonstrated significant and continued impact on customer experience and business results.
  • A track record of operational excellence operating services spanning many components across several geographical regions.
  • Experience working with and growing strong engineers within remote teams across geographies and cultures.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate crisply.
  • Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on development experience in Golang and Scala.
  • Solid grounding in at least one cloud environment: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Expertise with Kafka.
  • Exposure to or experience with log management or cybersecurity products.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and data science, including hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Determine where customers should be placed in the fleet, efficiently packing tenants while reserving sufficient capacity for their entitlements.
  • Continuously rebalance customers across shared infrastructure as demand changes, protecting customer performance and fleet health.
  • Automatically add or remove capacity in response to changes in demand.
  • Use real-time per-tenant usage data, including memory, storage, throughput, and query cost, to guide placement and balancing decisions.
  • Understand how data is ingested, stored, cached, and queried in the underlying platform, and use that understanding to improve placement and scaling models.
  • Operate the systems developed and handle customer-impacting incidents with rigor, designing for reliability and static stability.
  • Deliver key system components as an individual contributor while leading the team in solving ambiguous problems and improving LogScale engine scalability.
  • Work with technical leads and principal engineers to align technical strategy across the LogScale platform.
  • Communicate effectively with globally distributed teams.

Benefits

  • Market-leading compensation and equity awards.
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs.
  • Competitive vacation and holidays.
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves.
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees, regardless of level or role.
  • Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Vibrant office culture with world-class amenities.
  • Health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Eligibility for bonuses and equity grants.
