About The Position

The SQF Practitioner will serve as the primary SQF Practitioner, proficient in all areas of SQF. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the SQF System and communicating essential information to relevant personnel for its effective implementation and maintenance. The practitioner will ensure site personnel have the necessary competencies for functions affecting food safety and product quality, and will maintain a thorough understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing and the SQF Quality Code. Competency in Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other quality tools is required to reduce process variation and drive root cause analysis of non-conformities. The role involves maintaining and updating the SQF System, including prerequisite programs, and conducting annual SQF System audits (monthly verification). The practitioner will facilitate the annual SQF audit, assist in the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of HACCP-based food safety and quality plans, and participate in HACCP Team meetings. They will also facilitate the annual facility HACCP Audit and play an active role in all food safety and quality programs, procedures, manuals, records, and forms. This position is the primary contact for preparing and facilitating third-party audits (customer, SQF, regulatory, GFCO, organic, halal, kosher, etc.) and performs internal audits (GMP, Facility, SQF System Verification). Annual tasks include Food Defense Challenge, facilitating Senior Management Review, Product Specification Review, ensuring quarterly traceability exercises are performed, and verifying Pest Reports. The role also assists in scheduling, organizing, and performing employee GMP training sessions, maintains the quality training program (including Alchemy and SOPs), and performs new hire quality orientation. The SQF Practitioner will serve in a leadership role, actively participate on all teams, and act as backup to the QFS Manager. They will respond to reports of suspicious activity related to food defense and complete other assigned projects and tasks. Employees are expected to discuss job changes with their supervisor if they have been in their current position for less than 18 months; supervisor approval is not required if they have been in their current position for more than 18 months.

  • Required to report food safety problems or concerns immediately to a person with authority to initiate action as indicated on the organizational chart
  • Be aware of and follow up to date OSHA regulations that apply to the tasks in your job
  • Practice safe lifting techniques, bending and lifting with your legs, not your back
  • Pivot with your feet avoiding twisting at the waist
  • Be aware of your surroundings, watch for forklift traffic & trip hazards such as pallets or cords
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job you are doing
  • Maintain proper guards and safety devices when working with machinery and on catwalks
  • Never operate equipment for which you have not been properly trained or certified for
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary SQF Practitioner and be proficient in all areas of SQF
  • Responsibility and authority to take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System
  • Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System
  • Ensure site personnel have the required competencies to carry out those functions affecting food safety and product quality
  • Understand the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing and the SQF Quality Code along with the requirements to implement and maintain the system
  • Competent in Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other quality tools to reduce process variation and drive root cause analysis of non-conformities
  • Maintain & keep current the SQF System including maintenance of the prerequisite programs
  • Audit the entirety of the SQF System annually this is completed monthly using the SQF Verification Schedule
  • Facilitate the annual SQF audit
  • Assist with the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the HACCP based food safety and quality plans
  • Participate in HACCP Team meetings
  • Facilitate the annual facility HACCP Audit
  • Play an active role in the development, implementation, maintenance and review of all food safety and quality programs, procedures, manuals, records, and forms
