The Speech Therapist will be responsible for preventive measures, including observing and informally interacting with students in the classroom. They will informally assess learning environments related to communication and develop optimal learning opportunities and participation. The role involves collaborating with general/special education teachers and other service providers to create language programs and foster expressive language in natural settings. Additionally, the therapist will work with parents on language/communication programs, providing recommendations for home support. Responsibilities include conducting informal/formal speech and language assessments, writing reports according to district, state, and federal requirements, using functional and curriculum-based assessment tools, and adhering to mandated timelines and OUSD report format guidelines. The therapist will make specific recommendations to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team based on assessment findings, core curriculum, and board standards, and attend required IEP meetings for students recommended for speech and language therapy. Service delivery methods include consultation, one-to-one, small group, and whole-class instruction within general/special education classrooms, ensuring compliance with IEP and IDEA regulations.
