About The Position

The candidate will be responsible for preventive measures, including observing and informally interacting with students in the classroom. They will informally assess learning environments related to communication and develop optimal learning opportunities and/or participation. The role involves collaborating with general/special education teachers and other service providers to create language programs and foster expressive language in natural settings. Additionally, the therapist will work with parents on language/communication programs and provide recommendations for home support. Responsibilities include conducting informal/formal speech and language assessments, writing reports according to district, state, and federal requirements, utilizing functional and curriculum-based assessment tools, and adhering to mandated timelines and OUSD report format guidelines. The therapist will make specific recommendations to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team based on assessment findings, core curriculum, and board standards, and attend required IEP meetings for students recommended for speech and language therapy. Service delivery methods include consultation, one-to-one, small group, and whole-class instruction within general/special education classrooms, ensuring compliance with IEP and IDEA regulations.

Requirements

  • Possession of appropriate and valid California credential authorizing service in applied position.
  • Training and experience in the specific programs are required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all assessments following within mandated timelines.
  • Follow the OUSD report format guidelines and timelines.
  • Make specific recommendations to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team based on assessment findings, core curriculum and board standards.
  • Attend required IEP meetings for all students recommended to be serviced for speech and language therapy.
  • Provide various styles of delivery including consultation, one to one, small group, and whole class instruction within the general/special education classroom.
  • Ensure compliance with IEP and IDEA regulation.
