About The Position

The Paraprofessional assists teachers, specialists, and staff with the instruction, supervision, and training of general education and special education students with a variety of needs. In some cases, the work follows student-specific plans, behavior support plans, or other individualized plans. The position provides instructional services within established policies and procedures in varied educational settings, including classrooms, learning centers, vocational programs, and other instructional facilities. Other duties, including clerical tasks, may be assigned. The position is listed at 0.75 FTE.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Knowledge of behavior management strategies.
• Knowledge of the district curriculum.
• Knowledge of appropriate evasion and restraint strategies, such as Managing Student Behavior, ProAct, or similar approaches.
• Knowledge of standard office machines, including fax machines, network printers, and scanners, and computers.
• Knowledge of basic First Aid and CPR procedures and techniques.
• Experience with positive behavior modification, or willingness to be trained.
• Experience with curricular interventions, or willingness to be trained in interventions such as Response to Intervention techniques.
• Any combination of experience and education that can provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual Spanish skills are desirable.
• A minimum of two years working directly with students is preferred, especially with students who have IEPs and/or behavior support plans.
• Some college coursework related to education is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers, specialists, and staff in instructing, supervising, and training general education and special education students.
• Provide support to students in accordance with student-specific plans, behavior support plans, or other individualized plans, as applicable.
• Deliver instructional services in classrooms, learning centers, vocational programs, or other instructional facilities.
• Perform other assigned duties, which may include clerical tasks.
