About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) role is critical for ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. This position requires the ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which can change daily. The SPT I must be flexible and adaptable to various customer demands. While the majority of the work is on the night shift, availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime is a requirement based on staffing needs. The department operates in a production environment with an emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times. The role involves working in a biohazard environment, requiring good safety habits, and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Effective communication with all staff levels, adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies, and maintaining a neat work area are essential. Strong interpersonal skills that promote a positive environment are also expected.

Requirements

Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.

Data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
Ability to work in a biohazard environment and practice good safety habits.
Able to sit or stand for long periods.

Ability to keep work area neat and clean.

HS diploma or equivalent.
Basic understanding of computers.
Previous laboratory experience required.
Ability to stand for 8 hours continuously.
Ability to bend.
Ability to lift heavy boxes (20 lbs).

Nice To Haves

Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
