About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. The candidate will perform tasks including specimen sorting, delivery, centrifugation, and aliquoting with high accuracy. The role requires the ability to understand specimen types and compliance regulations in a fast-paced production environment. The candidate will communicate effectively with all levels of staff and adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures. The candidate is expected to keep the work area neat and clean and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to change.

Requirements

• Basic understanding of computers.
• Ability to understand specimen types and compliance regulations.
• Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
• Ability to sit for long periods.
• Ability to stand for long periods.

Nice To Haves

• Data entry background.
• Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
• Previous laboratory experience is preferred.
• A medical background which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory is preferred.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
• Previous experience in a production environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• Perform tasks including specimen sorting, delivery, centrifugation, and aliquoting with high accuracy.
• Understand specimen types and compliance regulations.
• Perform A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Keep the work area neat and clean.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
