Specimen Processors are responsible for receiving, preparing, and processing most samples that come into the department. This role involves accurately processing standard requisitions per approved procedures at expected rates, removing specimens from transport bags, entering patient data, labeling samples, and aliquoting as needed for multiple testing. The position also includes keeping inventory of samples after testing by scanning them into storage racks, searching the lab for unsorted samples, sorting samples for distribution, scanning tubes into storage racks, and entering specimen data into a database to verify accuracy. Additionally, Specimen Processors accession various sample types, check trash containers within the department, assist other lab personnel with specimen storage, and ensure Turn Around Times (TATs) are met. They must follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, restock supplies, and consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks.
