Specimen Processors are responsible for receiving, preparing, and processing most samples that come into the department. This role involves accurately processing standard requisitions per approved procedures at expected rates, removing specimens from transport bags, entering patient data, labeling samples, and aliquoting as needed for multiple testing. The position also includes keeping inventory of samples after testing, searching for unsorted samples, sorting samples for distribution, scanning tubes into storage racks, and entering specimen data into the database to verify accuracy. The Specimen Processor will also accession various sample types, check trash containers, assist other lab personnel with specimen storage, ensure Turn Around Times (TAT’s) are met, and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), including safety and quality procedures. Maintaining a clean and organized work area and restocking supplies are also key responsibilities. Associates are encouraged to consult with senior peers on non-complex specimen processing tasks to learn through experience. All other duties as assigned.
