About The Position

The Specimen Processor performs a variety of tasks to support customer satisfaction and cost-effective operations. Under the direction of the Operations Manager, this position assists with maintaining daily workflow throughout the program. Responsibilities include processing specimen requisitions, matching tests to specimens, labeling specimens, handling STAT specimens, printing patient charts, assisting callers, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting billing tasks when needed.

• Ability to meet the stated physical requirements: continuous sitting and walking/standing (up to 8 hours per day), simple grasping with both hands, fine manipulation and repetitive movement with both hands, frequent lifting of 10 pounds or less, and continuous typing.

Responsibilities

• Accurately and promptly process specimen requisitions, verify relevant information, and order all requested tests.
• Match requested tests with the appropriate specimens and label specimens according to established procedures.
• Process STAT specimens in a timely manner.
• Print patient charts when requested.
• Assist callers by providing accurate information in a timely and positive manner.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including collecting and disposing of specimens and contaminated materials according to established procedures, infection-control standards, body-fluid precautions, and protective-equipment requirements.
• Participate in the billing process when called upon, including separating clean and dirty requisitions or cleaning dirty requisitions.
• Perform other tasks for the Operations Manager as assigned.
