About The Position

The Specialty Sales Associate represents the company and its brand while assisting customers, identifying their needs, and explaining relevant products and services. The role requires learning product features and communicating product information in an educational, insightful, and professional manner while providing friendly, attentive service. The associate supports sales, store organization, and inventory operations. Duties include engaging customers, recommending and comparing products, sharing information about promotions, processing transactions, completing paperwork, and ensuring merchandise is checked in and ticketed accurately. The role may also involve handling special orders and taking measurements for tailored clothing or military uniforms. This is a part-time position with benefits. Work is typically performed indoors, though outdoor assignments may occur depending on location. Hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

One to two years of retail or relevant work experience required.
Six months of product-specific experience required.
Six months of responsible clerical, office, or retail sales/store experience demonstrating satisfactory performance; graduation from a full four-year or senior high school or possession of a GED may substitute for the experience requirement.
In-depth technical knowledge of how products work and their warranties, and ability to compare products by features.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and management, including by telephone using proper etiquette.
Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios.
Ability to multitask while attending to customers and remain flexible to business needs.
Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative without direct supervision.
Ability to understand and solve customer needs.
Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic disposition with a desire to provide outstanding service.
Ability to work a variety of hours, potentially including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Proactively engage customers, ask questions, listen to their needs, and provide premier customer service.
Direct customers to merchandise and inform them about events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card.
Demonstrate product features, explain product knowledge, and compare similar products.
Build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships and take accountability for actions and outcomes.
Maintain store appearance and learn the store layout.
Cross-sell and upsell products and make recommendations based on customer needs, current trends, and promotions.
Keep current on product features and trends and use company tools and technology to provide product specifications and information.
Operate a point-of-sale system and process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards; handle cash accurately.
Complete paperwork, reports, and reconciliations.
Handle special-order merchandise requests, including ordering, tracking, and updating customers, as needed.
Check in and accurately ticket merchandise and complete inventory processes; participate in periodic inventories as needed.
Take upper- and lower-body measurements for proper fit of tailored articles when selling clothing or military uniforms, as required.
Adhere to assigned work schedules and complete work assignments accurately and fully.
Perform other duties as assigned.
