About The Position

The Intensive Care RN provides intensive care to patients with life-threatening conditions. The role requires advanced critical-care skills, quick decision-making, and compassionate patient care. The nurse monitors vital signs and blood oxygen levels, administers intravenous fluids, and communicates with the medical team to support appropriate care plans. This is a per diem position in the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with 12-hour variable shifts. The position is temporary/seasonal through March 31, 2026.

Requirements

• Current, valid state RN license.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
• Current ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
• At least one year of experience as a staff RN in an acute-care hospital; critical-care experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a Critical Care Course.
• Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Critical-care experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients through detailed assessments, care-plan development, and complex nursing interventions.
• Use advanced equipment—including cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and capnography devices—to track vital signs and physiological parameters.
• Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products safely and precisely; monitor patient responses for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
• Manage life-support devices such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and cardiac monitors.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients’ families and help them understand the care being provided.
• Document patient care to support continuity and compliance, and maintain infection-control and safety protocols.
