About The Position

The Intensive Care RN (ICU RN) provides intensive care to patients with life-threatening conditions. The role requires advanced critical care skills, quick decision-making, and compassionate patient care. The ICU RN monitors vital signs and blood oxygen levels, administers intravenous fluids, and communicates with the medical team to modify care plans as needed.

This position is in the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. It is per diem and temporary/seasonal through March 31, 2026, with variable 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN license.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintained thereafter.
• Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
• Current ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
• At least one year of experience as a staff RN in an acute care hospital; critical care experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a Critical Care Course.
• Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Critical care experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients through detailed assessments, care-plan development, and complex nursing interventions.
• Use cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and capnography devices to track vital signs and physiological parameters.
• Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products safely and accurately, monitoring patient responses for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
• Manage life-support devices, including ventilators, dialysis machines, and cardiac monitors.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients’ families, serving as a liaison to help them understand the care being provided.
• Document patient care to support continuity and compliance, and maintain infection-control and safety protocols.
