Your future starts here. The Specialist, Regulatory Compliance helps make sure Mechanical Car, Locomotive, and Engineering operations follow all required regulations. The role focuses heavily on incident management, accurate reporting, and keeping an eye on costs. This position needs someone who understands operations well, can use good judgment when things aren’t clear ‑ cut, and isn’t afraid to question current practices to support compliance and ongoing improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 10+ years of railroad experience is preferred, specializing in mechanical and engineering operations
  • Skilled in incident management and regulatory reporting
  • Experienced in interpreting and applying federal regulations in Canada, US, Mexico
  • Strong analytical abilities in operational expense analysis and costing
  • Proficient in SAP work order extraction and analysis
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Mechanical and Engineering regulatory reporting compliance across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico
  • Review, investigate, and report regulatory incidents, checking details and costs to ensure reports are accurate and submitted on time
  • Stay up to date and confident using incident management systems and reporting processes
  • Track and review Mechanical and Engineering expenses, offering insights and helping support compliance efforts
  • Use systems like SAP, and all Mechanical and Engineering department applications to review work orders and related cost information
  • Lead regular compliance review calls with field teams and work closely with other groups to ensure information flows accurately
  • Support audits and regulatory reviews, making sure processes align with internal controls and compliance standards
  • Raise concerns when needed, provide compliance guidance, and share best practices with field staff and team members
  • Create new processes when gaps are identified, and improve existing processes whenever there’s an opportunity
