Specialist QA, Hardware & Payments

Qu•Atlanta, GA
•Onsite

About The Position

Qu is hiring a hands-on quality owner for physical restaurant software hardware, beginning with payment devices and payment integrations. The role builds and operates an end-to-end hardware lab, certifies devices and operating-system versions before customer deployment, and tests payment flows on real terminals. Success within six months includes maintaining a current certified-hardware list, running payment-device regression tests on real terminals with every release, and finding device and payment issues in the lab before they reach customer stores. The role covers lab setup that mirrors customer stores, hardware and OS certification, defining lab coverage and partnering on procurement, hardware performance testing, payment integration testing, payment processor and EMV certification scripts, and reproducing field issues. It also involves maintaining device test cases, automating repeatable checks where useful, and working within Qu's AI-first delivery workflow, where AI agents support test design, code review, and automation. The position requires regular on-site lab work in Atlanta or DC.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in QA or QE, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience with physical devices such as POS terminals, payment terminals, kiosks, or retail and hospitality hardware.
  • Hands-on testing of card-present payment flows on real terminals, including chip, contactless, magstripe, and PIN, in integrated or semi-integrated setups.
  • Experience certifying devices, firmware, or OS versions against a set of requirements and maintaining a supported-hardware list.
  • Experience with lab setup and troubleshooting, including device provisioning, peripherals, and store networking basics such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, IP setup, and network throttling.
  • Windows and Android device skills, including reading device and application logs such as adb logcat and Windows Event Viewer to distinguish hardware causes from software causes.
  • Clear written English for precise bug reports, reproduction steps, and test evidence for engineers and external partners.
  • Ability to work on-site in Atlanta or DC for regular lab work.

Nice To Haves

  • Restaurant or hospitality POS experience.
  • EMV Level 3 or payment processor certification experience; working knowledge of PCI DSS, P2PE, and PCI PTS.
  • Experience with terminal families such as Verifone, Ingenico, or PAX, and with payment gateways.
  • Device or kiosk test automation experience, such as Appium or Playwright, plus scripting in Python, C#, or similar.
  • Experience with device performance tools such as Android Studio Profiler or Windows Performance Monitor, and MDM tools for managing device fleets.
  • Experience using AI tools to design tests, analyze logs, or speed up test creation.
  • Ability to work well with distributed teams across time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain lab setups mirroring customer stores, including POS terminals, payment devices, kitchen display systems, kiosks, printers, cash drawers, scanners, and store networks.
  • Define the hardware needed in the lab to cover supported customer setups and partner with the hardware owner on procurement.
  • Certify new device models, firmware, and Windows and Android OS versions against Qu product requirements; maintain the certified-hardware list.
  • Measure startup time, responsiveness, memory and CPU use, peripheral reliability, and long-run stability; test behavior on weak or lost networks.
  • Test card-present payment flows on real terminals, including chip, contactless, magstripe, PIN, tips, voids, refunds, and offline payments across gateway and processor integrations.
  • Run test scripts for payment processor and EMV certifications.
  • Reproduce device and payment issues reported from stores.
  • Write and maintain device test cases and automate repeatable checks where useful.
  • Run payment-device regression tests on real terminals every release and identify device and payment issues before release.
  • Work in Qu's AI-first delivery workflow, using AI-agent support for test design, code review, and automation.
