Specialist FPGA Design Engineer 1

L3Harris•Salt Lake, UT

About The Position

L3Harris is seeking an FPGA design engineer with industry experience in signal processing techniques for its Salt Lake City, Utah location. The company designs, develops, and tests communication systems, advanced electronic warfare systems, and multifunction systems. Development work can span the full design lifecycle, including proposals, requirements definition, coding, simulation, synthesis, place and route, verification testing, and system support. This role focuses on FPGA design, HDL coding, simulation, synthesis, place and route, and laboratory verification. The engineer will work with a team of engineers and contribute both collaboratively and independently. The position follows a 9/80 schedule: employees work nine days in each 14-day period, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

  • At least 4 years of FPGA design experience with digital signal processing designs.
  • Experience with simulation, synthesis, and placement tools such as ModelSim, Synplicity, Xilinx Vivado/ISE, and/or Altera Quartus.
  • Experience with laboratory debugging techniques using signal generators, digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, and other complex measurement devices.
  • Experience with FPGA timing closure.
  • Experience developing hardware in VHDL or Verilog; VHDL is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing complex digital signal processing algorithms in FPGA devices; equivalent ASIC experience is also applicable.
  • Experience implementing industry-standard interfaces such as 10/100/1000 Ethernet, SPI, UART, SDRAM, DDR3, JESD, PCIe, and Ethernet.
  • FPGA design experience using high-speed serial interfaces of 3+ Gbps.
  • Experience with Git revision control.
