FPGA Design Engineer, Radar

Reliable Robotics Corporation•Seattle, WA
•$145,000 - $165,000•Onsite

About The Position

Reliable Robotics is developing automated aviation technology intended to improve safety and transform air transportation. The FPGA Design Engineer will join the FPGA team responsible for firmware at the core of the company's phased array radar. The radar is being developed to make Detect and Avoid technology affordable for widespread commercial applications, and this position will focus on new advanced operational modes. The engineer will own the full lifecycle of FPGA design for the Air to Air Radar solution, from product architecture and implementation through synthesis, hardware integration, and testing. The role works with avionics and radar teams to define high-level FPGA requirements and hardware/software interfaces; translates MATLAB algorithms into fixed-point VHDL implementations; evaluates system architecture performance tradeoffs; and verifies real-time performance. Development takes place in a collaborative environment that uses mutual peer review to maintain product quality. The position is located at the company's facility in Seattle, Washington. Access to export-controlled information is required, and employment is contingent on the applicant's ability to comply with U.S. export control laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of full-cycle electronics hardware development experience in a professional environment.
  • Professional experience designing FPGA digital logic using industry-standard design, simulation, and synthesis tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with radar, RF transceivers, and/or software-defined radio.
  • Proven track record of product ownership, including development and field support.
  • Experience with safety-critical FPGA development, such as DO-254 level A/B or an equivalent industry standard.
  • Experience architecting, implementing, and verifying fixed-point DSP algorithms.
  • Comfort with a fast-paced, agile/iterative development life cycle.
  • Pragmatic, results-oriented work style.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of FPGA design, including product architecture, implementation, synthesis, hardware integration, and testing for the Air to Air Radar solution.
  • Coordinate with the avionics and radar teams to establish high-level FPGA requirements and hardware/software interfaces.
  • Translate MATLAB algorithms into fixed-point VHDL implementations.
  • Conduct system architecture performance tradeoffs.
  • Verify real-time performance.
  • Participate in collaborative development, including mutual peer review, to maintain high product quality.
