About The Position

Reliable Robotics is developing safety-enhancing aviation technology to make air transportation safer and more accessible. The FPGA Design Engineer will join the FPGA team responsible for firmware at the core of the company’s phased array radar, supporting Detect and Avoid applications for commercial aviation. This role focuses on new advanced operational modes for the Air to Air Radar solution. The engineer will own the FPGA design lifecycle, from product architecture and implementation through synthesis, hardware integration, and testing. The role involves coordinating with avionics and radar teams on high-level FPGA requirements and hardware/software interfaces, translating MATLAB algorithms into fixed-point VHDL implementations, evaluating system architecture tradeoffs, and verifying real-time performance. Work is conducted collaboratively, including mutual peer review. The position is based at the company’s facility in Seattle, Washington.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of full-cycle electronics hardware development experience in a professional environment.
  • Professional experience designing FPGA digital logic using industry-standard design, simulation, and synthesis tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with radar, RF transceivers, and/or software-defined radio.
  • Proven product ownership, including development and field support.
  • Experience with safety-critical FPGA development, such as DO-254 Level A/B or an equivalent industry standard.
  • Experience architecting, implementing, and verifying fixed-point DSP algorithms.
  • Comfort with a fast-paced, agile or iterative development lifecycle.
  • Pragmatic, results-oriented work style.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full FPGA design lifecycle, including product architecture, implementation, synthesis, hardware integration, and testing for the Air to Air Radar solution.
