About The Position

This hands-on technical role supports advanced systems across the Intelligence community by combining precision engineering work with technical instruction. The Specialist builds, aligns, qualifies, integrates, and tests opto-mechanical and fiber-optic assemblies and systems, then uses that technical knowledge to develop and deliver training for operators, maintainers, and mission partners. The role collaborates with engineers, program leadership, and customer stakeholders to create accurate, engaging, mission-focused training that reflects system requirements, engineering documentation, and field insights. It also supports system readiness, performance, maintainability, demonstrations, and customer training engagements. The position is based in Palm Bay, Florida, and follows a 9/80 schedule: employees work nine days in each 14-day period, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off. An active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with system integration and test using engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability with precision mechanical assemblies, optical components, and/or fiber-optic hardware.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to turn engineering information into clear, field-ready training content.
  • Comfort delivering instruction in classroom, laboratory, or operational settings.
  • Fine-motor mechanical skills for small-component and precision-tool work.
  • Hands-on fiber-optic skills, including connectorization, polishing, inspection, and loss-testing.
  • Background in electro-optical systems, sensors, or other high-reliability technical environments.
  • Familiarity with basic shop math and applied problem-solving.
  • Military or civilian instructor certification.
  • Experience developing technical documentation or interactive training materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence or Adobe products.
  • Proactive learning mindset and enthusiasm for helping others master complex systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build, align, and qualify precision opto-mechanical and fiber-optic assemblies.
  • Perform system-level integration and test activities to validate performance and prepare systems for training and deployment.
  • Develop and deliver technical training based on engineering documentation, system requirements, and real-world field insights.
  • Translate engineering concepts into practical training materials, lesson plans, procedures, demonstrations, and digital training aids.
  • Collaborate with engineering and program teams to refine processes and improve system usability, maintainability, and training accuracy.
  • Maintain specialized training and engineering equipment, including ensuring calibration accuracy and operational readiness.
  • Support customer demonstrations, evaluations, operator-readiness events, and mission-critical training engagements.
  • Represent the team during customer engagements and provide knowledgeable technical support.
