Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-4 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, or a financial analyst role within the mining industry.
  • Advanced expertise in Excel-based financial modeling and preparation of presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in DCF, comparable company analysis, and precedent transaction analysis.
  • Ability to maintain and ensure the integrity of Corporate Development databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications (CFA, CPA, or MBA) are highly regarded.
  • Expertise in mining capital markets, including M&A execution, capital raising, and emerging industry trends.
  • A specialized focus on the base metals sector is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish will be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating potential acquisition targets and companies that align with Hudbay’s long-term growth strategy.
  • Support the execution of technical and financial due diligence, including participating in site visits for potential opportunities as required.
  • Help track and circulate relevant industry news and competitive intelligence to Hudbay’s Senior Management.
  • Contribute to the preparation of detailed economic and financial analyses, including the maintenance and development of valuation models.
  • Assist in creating internal Management and Board materials, such as strategic presentations and reports.
  • Help draft investment recommendation memorandums and formal materials required for investment approvals.
  • Assist in the monitoring of the mining equity portfolio and help fulfill administrative and audit requirements.
  • Maintain and update databases relevant to Corporate Development activities to ensure data accuracy.
  • Work with external advisors to ensure their data and analytical support are effectively integrated into internal systems.
  • Collaborate with internal departments—including Technical Services, Legal, and Finance—on transaction processes.
  • Support other Hudbay teams, including Investor Relations, Government Relations, and Exploration, on special projects as needed.
